The use case for this configuration is to prevent non Admins from entering content into specific fields on an item. In this specific case, we are disabling write access to fields that are part of the base page template that exists on every page. These fields specifically allow users to enter information into the “Head” of the page or to add scripts to the page just above the closing “body” element.
Make sure you are using the master database, open the Security Editor on the launchpad.
Choose the role you’d like restrict the fields for.
Click the “Columns” button and select the field options for read/write.
In the templates section of the content tree, locate the field or fields that you wish to restrict and disable the “Field Write” for each of them. Not shown is the “Inheritance” column. In some cases, you may need to disable inheritance, depending on your role configurations.
The results is that the fields become grayed out and un-editable.
